Mr. Lopo de Carvalho, a doctor, had as main hobby collecting coaches. As a young boy he got a little coach from his grandfather,
since then a passion for this kind of vehicles was born. Some of these coaches, which Dr. Lopo de Carvalho kept and rebuilt, are now displayed at the museum, and some of them were used by his ancestors.
More than fifty extraordinary units, that are part of the present collection, were made in different countries like France, England, Holland, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the United States of America. In the museum we can find coaches made by the most important manufacturers, like Henry Binder, Binder Ainnée, J. Heuri Labourdette, Rothchild & Fils, Peter & Sons, Enrique Vasquez, Almeida Navarro e Niels Hanson & Filhos.
